Ellerbe has become my new happy hour go-to spots in Fort Worth, and their wine program deserves way more attention. The $10 glass happy hour is one of the best deals in the city, especially given the quality of what's being poured. Kerby, the wine director and manager has curated an outstanding wine collection.
A few standouts from the current list:
Cuné Brut Rosé Cava – Dry, crisp and lively with red berries and citrus notes, a great way to start the meal.
Elk Cove Vineyards Pinot Gris – Bright and aromatic, with pear and orchard fruit that pairs beautifully with lighter dishes.
Southern Right Sauvignon Blanc – High acid, zesty and mineral driven, with grapefruit and green apple, a South African standout. This one surprised me and really gives NZ SBs a run for their money!
Ingrid Groiss Grüner Veltliner – Zippy and refreshing, with white pepper and stone fruit notes that make it endlessly food friendly. This is my new favorite Grüner.
Cuné Viña Real Reserva (Tempranillo Blend) – Rich and structured, with dark cherry, leather, and a smooth oak finish, perfect with the richer entrées like our shrimp and grits!
One of our favorite surprises is when the kitchen sends out chef tasting samples we didn't order. It's a small touch that says a lot about the place. We've been treated to toasted bread with brie, honey, and black pepper that hit every note it should. The shrimp and grits had a deep, rich flavor that stuck with us long after the plate was cleared. The house made focaccia with whipped ricotta was simple, but the bread style was probably the least impressive thing we ate.
The true star, though, was the pickle plate. Pickled beets, apples, carrots, and green beans, each in their own brine, showing off just how much thought goes into every detail on the menu.
Beyond the food and wine, the service is what keeps us coming back. Allison has waited on us several times now, either from the dining room or the bar and she genuinely makes the evening. She's warm, attentive, clearly passionate about the menu, and her recommendations have never missed. She has a way of making you feel like a regular even if it's your first time.
Highly recommend Ellerbe for a special night out or just a great happy hour with exceptional food and wine.
