Always good, but never great. This was our fourth or fifth visit, the service, atmosphere and cocktails are always great. The food is not. Last night we tried the lasagna. It was the worst we have ever had, more salt than any other spice. Just bad.

So apparently it’s good luck to eat gnocchi on the 29th of the month — or at least that’s what a contestant on Hell’s Kitchen told me. 😂 So naturally, I took that as a sign and headed to Gemelle. And I guess this is my unpopular opinion… It’s a no for me, dawg. — Randy Jackson First, let me give credit where it’s due: the outdoor patio and pool area absolutely pass the vibe check. It’s beautiful. Very cool atmosphere. Would I personally feel like I belonged anywhere near that pool? Absolutely the hell not. 😂 But visually? A whole vibe. Unfortunately, that’s about where my excitement ended. When I walked in, I was asked if I had a reservation. Totally normal question… except the restaurant was nearly empty and I was one person. When I said no, the response just felt a little annoyed or put out. I chose to sit inside because it was breezy and rain was moving in. There was one couple at the bar, one couple at a table inside, and maybe two or three tables occupied outside. Definitely not what I would consider busy. I started with the meatballs with Sunday gravy. There is no pretty way to say this: those meatballs gave me frozen-bag meatball energy. I couldn’t even figure out what meat I was eating. They were very pale, almost like ground chicken or turkey, and just seriously lacking flavor. The gravy definitely had flavor, but there was some kind of tang to it that just wasn’t working for me. I ate part of one meatball and that was enough. Then came the reason I was there: the gnocchi. And apparently I ordered elote’s Italian cousin. 😂 The cream corn was CORNING. Maybe that’s exactly what somebody else wants from gnocchi, but when I think Italian gnocchi, that just isn’t where my brain goes. It wasn’t bad enough that I couldn’t eat it — it just wasn’t what I was hoping for at all. The service was probably the biggest disappointment. Had someone who appeared to be a manager not eventually started clearing tables, I’m honestly not sure how long I would have been sitting there waiting. Then I asked for containers for my leftover meatballs and gnocchi and was brought one container. Two completely different dishes. Two completely different sauces. Maybe the metal pans with paper lids are on a strict one-per-table ration in this economy. I don’t know. 😂 Ultimately it didn’t matter because I gave the leftovers to a homeless person on my way home, and I’m sure mixing the sauces wasn’t high on his list of concerns. Before my food arrived, I had already noticed a couple of appetizers that looked really good and thought I might come back to try them another time. After dinner? I’m not so sure. The chef has achieved a level of culinary success I certainly never will, so maybe this style of food simply isn’t for me. But between the meatballs, the corn-forward gnocchi, and the service, this one was unfortunately a miss. The patio? Yes. The food and service tonight? It’s a no for me, dawg.

We both had pizzas and tiramisu. The food was mediocre. The ambiance is something I would expect downtown. Not in the middle of residential neighborhoods. The music was way too loud and acoustically off. It was painful to listen to. The tables inside are way too close together. There is no privacy for conversation. The inside was dirty. The wall, electrical lines, switches, curtains, window sills, and ceiling were dirty and covered in spider webs. The table we were sat at was off balance at the base attachment. Someone tried to fix it by using coasters but that wasn’t where the problem was. I had to keep my arm and weight on the table the entire time. The attached Hotel Otto’s laundry exhaust wafts into the restaurant overpowering the food smells with VOC’s from the detergents and softeners. The manager seems to have the standards of an Applebees. He certainly presented himself to be sub par to what was expected at Gemelle by Tim Love. The young lady waitress was efficient and polite. I feel bad for the waitresses having to wear such short skirts. I can’t imagine the harassment they receive, again not what was is expected at a neighborhood restaurant surrounded by families. Perhaps Tim Love was planning for a younger crowd full of swifties. In any case, we do not recommend Gemelle. You can get more bang for your buck elsewhere and hear what your companions are saying in a cleaner environment.

My first time in and I loved it. Brought my parents here with us and we all really enjoyed the food and service. Everyone was so friendly and the food was comforting, hearty and tasty. Some of the reviews are about the prices but when you select a restaurant you know this in advance. I rather pay a higher price for quality ingredients and quality service. Worth it! The burrata was fresh, the basil on the pizza was fragrant and fresh which you can tell. The pistachio gelato was very similar to Italy and the butterscotch budino was fantastic. We all fought over it. The pizza New York style was thin and crispy. Perfect for sharing at the table. What’s not to love about this place.

The bar tender was one of the best we've ever had. We like to sit and eat at the bar. My pasta was very good, but my husband's lamb chops were too salty. They were the special that night. I tried the polenta that came with his lamb chops, and it was inedible because of the amount of salt. Desserts were amazing! Great atmosphere.
